Before the Coffee Gets Cold: A Cozy Journey Through Time

Salaam wa alaikoum and hi my loves! So, I recently curled up with a book that’s been on my radar for a while: Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Let me tell you, it was such an interesting read! I just couldn´t get enough of it and obviously had to share my thoughts with you. I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars, and I’m already planning to dive into the rest of the series! Another excuse to buy some more books!

A Magical Little Café in Tokyo

Imagine this: a quaint little café tucked away in the backstreets of Tokyo, with the soft murmur of conversations, the clinking of cups, and a hint of magic in the air. This isn’t just any café – it’s a place where you can travel back in time. Sounds dreamy, right? But there’s a catch (of course, there’s always a catch!). You can only go back in time while sitting in a specific seat, you can’t leave that seat, and you must return before your coffee gets cold. Intrigued yet?

Before the Coffee Gets Cold isn’t just about time travel; it’s about the people who find themselves in this mysterious café with their own unique reasons for wanting to revisit the past. Each character’s story is a delicate exploration of love, regret, and hope. As you read, you’ll find yourself drawn into their lives, feeling their joys and sorrows as if they were your own.

Honestly, I loved how Before the Coffee Gets Cold combined a touch of magical realism with deeply human stories. The café itself felt like a character, with its warm, inviting atmosphere and quirky rules. The way Kawaguchi handled the time travel element was so unique and refreshing – no grand historical events, just personal, intimate moments.

Here are a few quotes that really resonated with me and captured the heartwarming essence of the book:

  • “The present changes the past. Looking back, you do not find what you left behind.”
  • “No matter what difficulties people face, they will always have the strength to overcome them. It just takes heart.”

I’ve only dipped my toes into Kawaguchi’s world with this book, and I’m super excited to read the rest of the series. There’s something so comforting about knowing there are more stories and more characters to meet in this enchanting little café.

If you’re looking for a book that’s both heartwarming and thought-provoking, Before the Coffee Gets Cold is definitely worth a read. It’s perfect for those cozy afternoons when you just want to get lost in a good story. Plus, it might just make you think a little differently about time, memories, and the power of small moments.

So, have any of you read this gem? Or are there any other books you’re curling up with right now? Let’s chat in the comments – I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I also have some reflection questions that are fun to think about!:

  • Have you ever wished you could revisit a moment in your past? What would you do differently, and why?
  • How do you think small, seemingly insignificant moments can impact your life in big ways?
  • If you had the chance to visit this magical café, who would you want to meet and what would you say?

Until next time, happy reading and savor that coffee before it gets cold!

Lots of love,

Nia
